CBD is a naturally occurring substance, which means it can be extracted from the cannabis plant. When people talk about CBD oil they are most likely referring to an oil that is derived from a CBD-rich strain of marijuana. To extract this cannabinoid oil from the cannabis plant, stalks and seeds are decarboxylated by heating them. Once this process is complete, the oil is drawn out using something like CO2 or alcohol.

This oil can then be used to produce various forms of CBD products. There are many different ways to extract the oil from the cannabis plant, with each method yielding a different level of CBD and end product.

Alcohol Extraction Method

CBD made using an alcohol extraction method is referred to as a full-spectrum CBD extract. Alcohol extracts are known for their ability to provide consumers with the naturally occurring cannabinoids and terpenes which give users a more complete experience.

This video provides a visual representation of how CBD oil is manufactured:

CO2 Extraction Method

In the video, you can see how CBD oil is made using a CO2 extraction method. CO2 extracts are known for being efficient and effective at removing cannabinoids from plant material. When a CO2 extraction is complete, the resulting product will have an operp oil-like consistency. This final product can be used in a variety of ways, but it is most commonly used to produce capsules or tinctures.

Butane Extraction Method

The video also shows a CBD oil extract being manufactured using a butane extraction method. Butane extracts are known for their ability to provide users with a uniquely potent product because cannabinoids and terpenes aren’t exposed to excess heat or oxygen during the extraction process. This means that when the final product is created, the user may be able to experience an enhanced flavour and sensation.

A butane extract can be further processed to make a crystalline CBD isolate, which is one of the most common forms of CBD used in consumer products today. A full-spectrum CBD oil will also often include additional cannabinoids like CBN (cannabinol). Full spectrum extracts are known for providing users with a wide range of benefits.

There are many different ways to make CBD oil, each of which can affect the outcome slightly differently. It’s important to keep in mind that while some methods are safer than others, each method will yield a different end product.
